The
Mythic Tarot Deck
Juliet Sharman-Burke
& Liz Greene. Illustrated by Tricia Newell
The Mythic Tarot is the very first
deck that I have ever used and it remains one of my favorites. One
of the biggest assets to this deck is the book that comes along with it.
With the purchase of the deck, you get a full edition (not just a little
pamphlet) of the companion piece that really helps with interpreting the
meaning of the cards. Although this is no longer my main deck for
readings, it was for almost five years until I lost one of the cards and
had to change decks. I still keep the book that came with the deck
because the stories that are contained within are of exceptional quality
and add such atmosphere to the deck. Inside the book there are
separate Greek mythologies associated to each card which makes it a
delightful read and really brings the meanings of the cards across.
Another asset to this particular
deck are the illustrations of each card. Each illustration is rich
in detail, and brings to life the stories that are contained in the book.
I was so inspired by this particular deck that I traced and burned each
image of the major arcana into wood and I gave them out to close friends
as gifts (and I still have about 15 left). The cards themselves are
of a good handling size, and flow very easily in the hands. One word
of warning however, these cards are glossed extremely well and if your not
careful they can and will fly right out of your hands. The cards are
slightly thinner then other decks I have handled, but never the less are
extremely sturdy. If you are looking for a beginner deck, and you
like the Greek mythologies then this really is the best deck for you.
You will learn a lot from this tarot deck and from the stories associated
to each card. The deck uses the standard suits: Queen, King, Knight,
and Page as well as Wands, Swords, Cups, and Pentacles. A truly
exceptional artistic work.
