The Robin
Wood Tarot Deck
The Robin Wood Tarot Deck is
the primary deck that I use to do readings. It was distributed
in 1991 and is a pagan/wiccan deck that is extremely easy to use.
I personally suggest this deck to beginners if they do not want to go with Rider-Waite.
The symbolism of the cards is incredibly easy to pick up on, and
each card is full of detailed symbols that are not always noticeable
from the first glance. I like this deck because when
doing readings there is always something new that catches my eye,
and it really helps to define my readings. The back of the
deck has a green and white celtic knot design, which is reversible
and easy on the eyes. The artwork on the front of the cards is
remarkably similar to the Rider Waite deck but has a genuine pagan
feel. This deck uses the Air - Swords and Fire - Wands
associations, which I personally agree with. It is a
traditional 78 card tarot deck, and uses kings, queens, knights, and
pages. For some reason I have always had a hard time accepting
any deck that strayed away from the traditional use of suits.
The deck is very comfortable
and easy to handle, and is made of a sturdy material that takes
quite a while to brake in. Once the deck is broken in however,
it is easy for it to become your primary deck. The deck comes
with a small book (pretty much standard) that gives the meanings of
the cards. A companion book has also been written recently
which gives more in depth meanings. The book and deck is also
available as a set, which is more economical then if they were purchased separately.
Robin Wood maintains her own site, and links to purchase the deck and
book are available below. I know how frustrating it is to
shell out $30.00 for a tarot deck, and when you get it home be
completely disappointed. This deck will NOT disappoint.
It is in my opinion one of the best decks out there.
